Buy a colourful scarf to get in the mood for Spring

We've been wearing the same clothes and colours since September (when we couldn't wait to get into our new autumn-winter clothes) and now we're ready for a change. We still have to wear our coat and boots, so how are we going to lift our spirits whilst waiting to completely shed our winter clothes? colour me beautiful has the solution. Get a new colourful scarf!

Choose a colour that you would like to wear in the spring; think primrose for the Lights, or lime for the Deeps. In the meantime the Warms may like a tangerine whilst the Cools might choose a hot pink. The Clears will add some spring-like colours with a duckegg scarf and the Softs will look elegant and feminine with a soft white scarf.

Seasonal Update for Spring / Summer 2010

This season fashion is ultra feminine & flirty; chiffon, floral, butterflies and ruffles galore. 

There are no rules on pattern so mix your spots with stripes!

It's a great season to buy investment pieces; classic styles and neutral shades are everywhere.

Plenty of choice in colours for cool & warm skin tones but make sure you choose the right shade.

Petites - choosing outfits to wear if you're under 5'3"

Choosing the right dress

The dress below works great on a petite as it emphasises the waist above the natural waistline so the body looks longer than it is.  A knee length dress shows off her great legs and the open front shoes give the illusion that her legs are longer than they are in reality.  Again, the colour of her shoes support the illusion of longer legs.

The sleeve length is perfect and her long earrings emphasise her graceful neck.  Accessories have been kept to a minimum and are in proportion with her bone structure. 

The darts under the waistline create curves but the dress then tapers in at the hem so the dress isn't too volminous for her petite frame.  The fabric is lightweight to medium so her petite frame isn't swamped by a heavy fabric.

Choosing the right jeans

Never purchase jeans that are too long in the leg and have them taken up to fit - the proportions will end up totally unflattering.  Choose jeans from petite ranges and if you have a fuller bodyshape choose jeans with elastane which make you appear to drop a size!

Choosing the right work suit

A short jacket works best but if you are low-waisted you may find a standard size jacket works better for you.  Be careful that the buttons are in proportion with your scale - e.g. if you are petite and a size 8 then smaller buttons work best for you.

If you already know your style personality (from your Colour Me Beautiful Style & Image Consultation) and you are a Romantic, you'll find the corporate suit too masculine so pair with a silk bouse underneath to make it more feminine or swap the jacket for knitwear (if it suits your work environment).

Choosing the right coat

Three quarter length coats will always work best on you.  The return of the Mac is big news for Spring/ Summer '10 so you will have loads of choice! Be careful though that you choose a colour that flatters you and will work with a few items in your existing wardrobe.

A less common and more natural shade chosen by the down-to-earth and eco-friendly driver.  The elegance of darker greens suggest peace and tranquillity.  A great colour for hyperactive or stressed-out drivers.

 

Red.                The Flash Harry.        

Red car drivers are vibrant and demonstrative.  Because red is seen as racy, so too are they and should be watched on a first date!  If you want to be noticed - and stopped for speeding - buy red.

 

Brown/Grey.  The downright boring             

A handy colour for the country, but the owner is the type who has a complete tool kit in the boot.  Being so dull means its driver is rarely in a good mood and can be very temperamental.

 

Yellow.           Look at me!                

A lively personality who is intuitive and spontaneous.  The yellow car owner sets out without a map and finds the way by instinct.  Because of this they can be easily distracted and if you are behind one, you can bet that they brake at the last minute!

 

Silver.             The City Chic.

The driver of a silver car is modern, independent-minded and likes to stand out - without being brash.  Beware of the silver car drivers though - they are likely to simultaneously be talking on a mobile, change lane and balance a cappuccino!

Dream of a wardrobe full of clothes .... that you actually wear??

We all know too well the feeling of standing in front of our wardrobe in the morning / before a night out thinking "I have nothing to wear!" 

A wardrobe full of clothes that you never wear is very distracting and gives you the false sense that you have a lot of choice until you go to get dressed.

Your first step is to pull out everything in your wardrobe and separate into two piles:

1) What you wear

2) What you don't wear

Concentrating on the clothes you don't wear, determine why you're not wearing it:

  • It doesn't fit
  • It looks outdated
  • It's not comfortable
  • It doesn't match anything

If it doesn't fit - does it just need some alterations?  Or, is it a size too small?  If is needs alterations, get them done.  If it's too small, be honest about whether or not it's ever going to fit.  If you've been holding on to something for years in case you lose that extra weight, chances are it won't look right when you do.  Our bodies change and styles change.  If it doesn't fit and it isn't worth altering, give it away!

If it looks outdated, it probably is.  You can try to pair the piece with something more current, but if it still feels unstylish, give it away.

If it's not comfortable, you'll never wear it so it's just taking up space.  Give it away.

If it doesn't match anything you have in your wardrobe set it aside for now.

Once you eliminate the clothes you don't wear you will have a better idea of what you actually have to wear.

If you have a lot of clothes that fall into the 'give away category', consider if you could sell them on ebay to raise funds for clothes you will arrange?  or arrange a swishing party with a group of friends? (easier with a Colour Me Beautiful consultant to advise who suits what)
